 "PALABRAS DE LLUVIA"  EN NEW SPANISH BOOK 2018 

La novela “Palabras de lluvia” de la escritora Cristina Mª Menéndez Maldonado, publicada por Eirene Editorial, ha sido seleccionada para el panel 2018 de New Spanish Book en el Reino Unido.

Palabras de lluvia cuenta la historia de Teodosia Davila Maceda, una mujer indígena que nació en la selva peruana de Ucayali a fines del siglo XIX y que murió en Asturias. La novela comienza con la angustia de Teo al dejar Perú con rumbo a España, entretejida con los recuerdos de su infancia en el Monasterio de Santa Catalina de Arequipa. Su historia es también la historia de Saulo, un alpaquero que está convencido de que las palabras respiran y de Tamia, la abuela de Teo que la conectó con los espíritus de las montañas, el mar y la tierra.

"WORDS OF RAIN" IN NEW SPANISH BOOK 2018

The novel Words of rain by the writer Cristina Mª Menéndez Maldonado, published by Eirene Editorial, has been selected for the panel 2018 of New Spanish Book in the United Kingdom. 

Words of rain is the story of Teodosia Davila Maceda, a woman native who was born in the Peruvian jungle of Ucayali in the late nineteenth century and she died in Asturias. The novel begins with Teo's anguish when leaving Peru heading to Spain, interwoven with the memories of his childhood in the Santa Catalina Monastery of Arequipa. His story is also the story of Saulo, “alpacas shepherd” who is convinced that words breathe, and Tamia, Teo's grandmother who connected her with the spirits of the mountains, the sea and land.

«Words of Rain is beautifully written and many readers will be attracted by the fact that it is told from the point of view of an indigenous Peruvian woman. The novel is complex and both challenges and delights. Teo’s story is astonishing and both she and the people she meets on her journey are very much brought to life. There are difficult themes, but overall the book is a very uplifting read in the way that it emphasises the bonds between people.
